I have just been talking to someone I know who lives down on the Gold Coast about the national VJMC rally and he reckons that the venue is a shocker. Well he wasn't telling me anything I didn't already think about the Gold coast anyway but he says the venue is really and he says really ,really ,really bad for mossies and the council has permanent fogging trucks travelling around and the dump is nearby he says and to top it off the main freeway goes right past it. Anyone know anything about the venue as he has turned me right off attending in 2019. The National VJMC web site doesn't have much info at all.

I do not know anymore than what you have said (which I previously concluded from a few internet searches) and I am still in two minds about whether to try and attend or not.

If I do attend, I always thought I would stay off site somewhere but the Gold Coast area is renowned for its lack of quality affordable accomodation.

Probably not helpful.

Thanks for bringing that up Buff,

I would like to attend - but a little bit unsure of where to stay. I do have another event I will be going to in March sometime - so they could clash..

Not really sure at present... but as mentioned - a long way to come to get bitten by mossies.

And you are right - bugger all information from the local VJMC who are hosting.

Charlie.  It is scheduled for mid May apparently. Might just have to nip up to darwin instead and see if they have any old bikes up there.

Buff- yes sorry about that I somehow thought it was in March... having a browse on the internet - there is not much information about the event to find at the moment.

Cheers

Maybe there will be some movement in the new year.   2smiley

The problem with the Gold Coast is that if business gets a whiff of some thing on they quadruple their prices. Mate of mine volunteered to help with the commonwealth games and had to supply his own accommodation. THE BEST he got was $800 for 5 days for an empowered caravan park site. Motel rooms were $ 5000. Similar things happen for schools week

Well,

After some rapid fire discussions with Harry and Doddsy, I have booked a Standard Ensuite grassed site (upper class indeed), for us three.

Cost per night per head was $24 not including the 10% VJMC discount - I can live with that...now about them mossies...

I have booked for Thursday night to Sunday night..giving us time to acclimatise and relax.

I will probably ride the Turbo up and back - so will have an overnight stay on the way to and from Penrith - can anyone suggest a good stop over point ??

Cheers

Look forward to catching up with a few people... :)

For the first time ever I booked early & now I'm scrapping that & joining the "Young" people.  lmao lmao

I'll be cancelling a powered site tomorrow in favour of the ensuite site that Charlie has booked for us.

I'd booked it way back in May 2018  lmao lmao

Sorry Ian,

It just goes to show how keen you are to turn up - by booking such a long time in advance. Speaking with the park tonight as mentioned - let them know by email you are not cancelling - just re-locating to another site within the park - I don't think they should be that harsh on you... anyway we already have a contingency built in for that event..

Cheers

I'm not complaining mate.

I thought I'd mention it here in case someone needed a spot & sent me a PM to change my plan  :grandpa:

I'll finalise the email tomorrow & look forward to Dream World   happy0065 happy0065

I will be leaving home on the morning of the 15th May and travel roughly half way to the rally and be stopping around Hat head to Kempsey area.  Overnight in that area then venture to Helensvale the next day so it won't be so much of a chore. Arriving some time in the afternoon of the 16th.

Staying Thursday through to Sunday nights, then head off Monday morning for the reverse trip, might even stay at roughly the same place on the way home.

cheers

Will be packing in the sandals, mossie repellent, hat, maybe even the swimmers - depending on the weather at the time...

Just made bookings for a place called Kundabung - air bnb - looks quaint..

Don't know if I will bother going to the Mould coast. I reckon that it's a terrible mistake convening it there but to each their own I guess. I am lead to believe that some people actually live there.

Ron and I will be there as spectators only - no bikes this year as we'll have the camper trailer in tow ...

Chris and I will be going to the Noosa Heads RACV resort during the Rally time, but may be able to get to the rally site on the Sunday about lunch time. No bikes.
