CX500 Crank Big End regrind
« Started on: 28-May-19, 11:25 »
Hi Guys
New member here this is my first post
I bought a couple of tired CX500's . I have stripped the first engine and found the L/H big end bearing to be cooked. I polished the crank pin in the lathe and now has a few minor scratches I measured it and it varies between 39.93mm and 39.96mm
I would like to get it reground and get some undersized bearings but reading a lot of posts on the Forum there isn't any clear solution for this common problem
I did try to contact Crank Tech and the number on the web is no longer in use
I have also emailed engineering companies in the UK trying to get undersized bearings sent out
Can anybody help ?

One other side issue
Both my con rods don't have number engraved on the sides ??

The best solution is to find some car big end shells that are suitable and get the crank re ground to size . You can grind a bit off the conrod cup if needed and that will make it oval then rebore to whatever size you need. Kings in Tassie have multitudes of different size shells. The location of the anti spin tags  are of no consequence as they can be machined wherever they are needed.I believe that there are some Dihatsu shells that are suitable.

Hi Guys

Did a search for some bearing shells the closest I could find was these Daihatsu shells but they are only 17.98 mm wide CX500 shells are 20mm wide
The O/D the I/D and the under sizes look great

The width should not matter. Just re cut the anti spin tags grooves on the rod

If you can get onto Cranktech they will supply the bearing shells, from a Holden 179 motor from memory, and do everything you need, they also have a jig for doing the CX500 cranks and shells.
